President's Message

Every month the President of RECSI invites you take a moment and share a few thoughts about the state of the chapter and promote a dialog that hopefully can help to grow and sustain our community of design and construction professionals.

MAY 2013

Last week, the RECSI Chapter was fortunate enough to enjoy a private tour of the new, Green Music Center at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park. A thank you is in order to Barry Grzebik (Grzebik Design Group) for coordinating this event with Patrick Maloney, Associate Director.

I had no idea that Sonoma County, as well as the Greater Bay Area, has been blessed with such an amazing facility as the Green Music Center, which includes the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Hall, the Schroeder Recital Hall, a multi-use educational facility and an elegant hospitality center.

The highlight of the tour, while everything was spectacular, had to be Weill Hall, which was a technological and architectural masterpiece. This performance hall seats 1,400 and is recognized as one of the premiere music and performance venues not only in the United States, but throughout the world!

The rear doors open and expand into an indoor/outdoor venue that could accommodate an audience of over 5,000. I especially found the woodwork to be fascinating. Wood species were chosen not only for the aesthetic characteristics, but for their acoustical performance.

If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of seeing the Green Music Center, then I encourage you to make a point of visiting, or even better – attend a performance!

On a completely different note, we’re already preparing to wrap up RECSI’s 2012-13 fiscal year. This year was marked by a number of really positive events and performances: membership growth, some terrific dinner meeting programs and tech talks, a large graduating class who participated in our education/certification class, and the most successful Construction Technology Expo in memory.

On Thursday, June 6th, we will devote our dinner meeting to celebrating a great year, recognize our members who played a key part in our chapter’s successes, and then spend some time with our CSI Fellow Bryan Varner, who will share some history of our Chapter and some insights into how the Redwood Empire Chapter has become one of the recognized chapter leaders in CSI.

Finally, on Saturday, June 29th, we will hold our final Board meeting of the year, followed by a planning retreat where your Board will start our new annual cycle developing goals and objectives for our 2013-14 fiscal year, led by our incoming President John Dolan.

Once the heavy lifting is completed on Saturday morning, we will adjourn and start the fun with our Annual Barbecue Picnic at the Ziedrich Pool & Picnic Grounds (303 Burgundy Road in Healdsburg). All members and their guest are invited to the Barbecue.

It’s been a terrific year and we all deserve a break. We hope to see you there.
