March Program:
Lois Fisher, of Fisher Town Design, will present a historic perspective on urban planning and how the planning decisions that we have made in the past have directly created our present car-oriented environment. As a society, do we want to continue in the same direction or take steps to create a new planning future?
Lois is a new Urbanist designer that has been taking the lead on helping to create climate friendly walkable neighborhoods in our local communities and throughout the United States using smart zoning and excellent urban design. If you have been to the Theatre District in downtown Petaluma, you have seen her coding work. These walkable environments are climate-friendly, reducing greenhouse gasses by up to 40% compared to suburban sprawl. Her projects are located across the country and include SmartCodes for Charleston, SC, Flagstaff, AZ, Carmel, IN and Hamden, CT. California projects include Coddingtown Station in Santa Rosa, Sonoma Mountain Village in Rohnert Park, Quarry Village in Hayward and Artisan Village in El Dorado Hills.
She is a graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and is a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP). Fisher served on the Town of Windsor Planning Commission from 1998-2005. She currently serves on the United States Green Building Council’s Location and Planning Technical Advisory Committee for LEED for Neighborhood Design, working to improve the LEED for Neighborhood Development rating system.
